Junior memberships and fees
How to create age-tiered junior membership types, set junior pricing, and enforce age eligibility on Badminton Clubhouse.
Junior memberships and fees
Junior membership types on Badminton Clubhouse work like any other membership type, with two additional fields that let you define age-appropriate tiers and pricing. The platform enforces eligibility automatically: a junior cannot be assigned an adult tier, and an adult cannot be assigned a junior tier.
---
The two extra fields
When you create or edit a membership type, you will find two fields specific to age-tiered memberships:
Audience
| Value | Who it applies to |
|---|---|
| Adults | Members aged 18 and over only |
| Juniors | Members under 18 only |
| Any | No age restriction (the default for most clubs) |
Setting the audience to Juniors restricts the tier to under-18 members. It will not appear as an option when enrolling an adult, and will not be offered when assigning a membership to a member whose date of birth shows they are 18 or over.
Age window (optional)
You can optionally set a minimum age and a maximum age within a tier. For example:
- Minimum age: 8, Maximum age: 11 (for a "Mini Juniors" tier)
- Minimum age: 12, Maximum age: 15 (for a "Junior" tier)
- Minimum age: 16, Maximum age: 17 (for a "Senior Junior" tier)
The platform calculates eligibility from the junior's date of birth. If you attempt to assign a tier to a junior who falls outside the age window, the assignment is refused with a clear message.
Leave the age window blank if you want the tier to cover all juniors (for example, a single "Junior membership" at one price).

Example tier structure
Here is an example of how a club might structure junior tiers alongside their adult membership:
| Tier name | Audience | Age window | Annual fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Adult Membership | Adults | - | £80 |
| Junior - Mini (age 8-11) | Juniors | 8 to 11 | £25 |
| Junior - Standard (age 12-15) | Juniors | 12 to 15 | £40 |
| Junior - Senior (age 16-17) | Juniors | 16 to 17 | £55 |
| Family Membership | Any | - | £150 |
The family tier uses Any so it can be assigned regardless of age when the club uses it for household billing.

Setting up membership types
Membership types are managed in Admin > Settings > Memberships. You do not need to have the junior posture active before creating junior tiers - you can prepare them in advance. However, junior tiers can only be assigned to a member after the posture is enabled and the junior is enrolled through the guardian invitation flow.
For full instructions on creating and editing membership types, see Membership Settings.
---
Eligibility enforcement
The platform checks eligibility at the point of assignment and will refuse any assignment that violates the audience or age window. The error message names the constraint that was not met (for example, "This membership is for juniors only" or "The member does not fall within the age range for this tier").
There is no override available to committee members. If you need to assign a tier that does not match the member's age (for example, a special circumstance agreed by the committee), you will need to adjust the tier's age window temporarily or create a separate tier.
---
What happens when a junior turns 18
When a junior member is promoted to their own adult account at age 18, their junior membership lapses. The committee can then assign an appropriate adult tier. See Enrolling and managing juniors for details of the at-18 promotion flow.
