Finding a way to help

Clubs run on volunteers. The Find a way to help page (/volunteer) lets you browse the roles local clubs need a hand with and offer your time. You do not need an account to browse or to apply.

Browsing opportunities

Open /volunteer to see open opportunities across clubs. You can also find a single club's roles on its public page, under Ways to help, or at /[club]/volunteer.

Searching by distance

Enter a full UK postcode (for example SW1A 1AA) and choose a radius to see only the opportunities within that distance of you. Results are ranked by the closest club venue. Clear the postcode to browse everywhere again.

What each card shows

Every opportunity card shows:

  • The role title and the club offering it
  • A short description of what you would do and why it matters
  • The time commitment, when the club has given one (for example "around 2 hours a week, Saturdays")
  • A "DBS check required" badge when the role works with juniors

What "DBS check required" means

Some roles, especially those working with juniors, need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The badge is a heads-up, not a barrier: you can still apply. If you are approved for a role that needs a DBS check, you record your DBS certificate against your own account and the club's welfare officer verifies it; your access only goes live once it is verified.

Applying

  1. Open an opportunity and read the detail.
  2. Select View and apply.
  3. Fill in your name and email. A phone number and a short message are optional.
  4. Select Send my offer to help.

If you are signed in, your email is locked to your account and your name is filled in for you.

We email you a confirmation with a link to track or withdraw your application. If you have already applied to that role, we resend the tracking link instead of creating a duplicate.

What happens next

  1. The club's committee reviews your application.
  2. If they would like you to help, they send you an invitation by email with a link to accept. Accepting sets up your account if you do not have one yet.
  3. For a role that works with juniors, your access stays dormant until your DBS check is verified. After you accept, record your DBS certificate under My Safeguarding in your account (the approval email links you straight there). The club's welfare officer verifies it, and you get a confirmation once your access goes live.

Tracking or withdrawing your application

The confirmation email includes a personal link. Open it any time to see your application's status. While it is still pending, you can withdraw it with the Withdraw application button. You are welcome to apply again later if you change your mind.
