Deleting Your Account
How to permanently delete your Badminton Clubhouse account, the 30-day cooling-off, and what happens if you guardian a child
Deleting Your Account
You can permanently delete your Badminton Clubhouse account at any time. Deletion removes your personal data across the platform and ends your membership at every club you belong to. There is now one way to delete your account, a request with a 30-day cooling-off you can cancel, so you can never lose your data by accident.
You have 30 days to change your mind. Nothing is erased the moment you ask. Your account is scheduled for deletion, and you can cancel any time in the cooling-off window.
How to Delete Your Account
You can start from either place, both lead to the same cooling-off flow:
- Settings →
/me/settings→ Danger Zone → Delete my account, or - Your data →
/me/data→ Delete my data (Art. 17).
Then:
- Read what gets deleted vs retained in the dialog.
- Type DELETE in the confirmation box.
- Tap Schedule deletion.
We email you a confirmation with a one-click cancel link, and your account is scheduled for deletion 30 days later.
Cancelling: You Have 30 Days
Two ways to cancel, both loss-free (no data is erased until the cooling-off ends):
- Sign in again. Your account stays usable during cooling-off. Wherever you go in the app you'll see an amber banner, "Your account is scheduled for deletion on
" , with a Keep my account button. Click it and you're restored. You can also go to Your data (/me/data) and tap Cancel my erasure request. - Click the email link. The confirmation email contains a one-click cancel link that works even without signing in.
See Cancelling an erasure request for the full detail.
Things That Stop Deletion
The platform checks two things before scheduling deletion, to protect you and others:
Outstanding payments
If you have any unpaid payment requests, deletion is blocked until they're settled. You'll see a prompt with a Go to my payments link (/me/payments). Pay or cancel what you owe, then come back. (Once settled, club financial records are still retained for 7 years for HMRC, see below.)
Looking after a junior
If you are the only guardian for one or more children, we stop and show you the affected children by name, with two paths:
- Manage these children (recommended): takes you to your Juniors page (
/me/juniors) to invite a co-guardian or transfer guardianship. Once another active guardian is in place, deletion goes through normally and the child keeps their profile and history. - Delete account AND remove children: a destructive path that, after a second confirmation, schedules the child's records for deletion alongside yours when the cooling-off ends.
Tip: Adding a co-guardian first is almost always better, your child stays on the platform under another adult's care, keeping their match history, club memberships, and team assignments intact.
If a child already has a second guardian, only your guardian link is removed; the co-guardian keeps full access.
What Gets Deleted
When the 30-day cooling-off ends, the platform removes:
Personal data: your profile, contact details, profile photo, sign-in credentials, notification preferences, and consents. Clubs: your roster entry at every club, plus committee roles, team assignments, availability, tags, and emergency contacts. Pending invitations to your email are revoked. Juniors: your guardian links (and any junior profiles you chose to remove via the path above). What Deletion Doesn't Do
- Past match history is kept, with your name shown as "Former player", so opponents' records stay intact.
- It does not cancel direct debits or external payments, cancel those with your bank.
- It does not remove records clubs are legally required to retain: financial records (7 years, HMRC), audit logs proving lawful processing (7 years), and safeguarding records (Children Act / our DPIA addendum).
- For up to 7 days after the live erasure, some data may persist in disaster-recovery backups before it ages out.
After Day 30
Once the cooling-off elapses the erasure runs and becomes permanent, you can't cancel after that. If you genuinely need a recently-erased account restored, email dpo@badmintonclubhouse.com; anything older than 7 days post-erasure is unrecoverable.
You can sign up again later with the same or a different email, but the previous account's data won't come back.
Telling Your Club First
You don't have to, but it's a courtesy, especially mid-season or with upcoming matches. Let your captain or committee know so they can re-plan around you.
