What a period is, what happens to your box when it rolls over, and the notifications you get.
Box league periods and movement
A box league runs in periods. During a period you are in a box with a handful of other entrants, and you each play everyone else in your box once. When the period ends, the organiser rolls the league over: the strongest finishers move up a box, the lowest move down, and a fresh period starts with new boxes and new fixtures.
What a period is
A period is a fixed stretch of time, often about four weeks, in which your box plays its all-play-all. Your fixtures are self-arranged, so you contact your box opponents and agree a date and venue for each match, then record the result. Aim to get every match played before the period's play-by date. If you have not arranged a match as the date approaches, you will get a reminder.

What happens when the period rolls over
Once every match in the period is played, the organiser rolls it over. Movement depends on where you finished in your box:
- Finish near the top of your box and you move up to the box above.
- Finish near the bottom and you move down to the box below.
- Finish in the middle and you stay in the same box.
The top box has nowhere higher to go, so its best players stay put, and the bottom box keeps its lowest, by the same logic. How many move each period is set by the organiser, usually two up and two down. If you joined late, you start in the bottom box for your first full period.
The organiser reviews a preview and confirms the roll; it is never automatic. Once confirmed, your new box and its fixtures are ready straight away.
The notifications you get
Around a rollover you may receive:
- Your movement this period, telling you whether you moved up, stayed, or moved down, and which box you are now in.
- Your new box is live, letting you know the next period has started and your fixtures are ready to arrange.
- Period closing soon, a nudge if your current period is coming to an end and you still have matches to play.
