Guardian consent for under-18s
What happens when you book a session for a child under 18: the consent email, what it asks for, and how long it lasts.
Guardian consent for under-18s
Badminton England affiliation and safeguarding rules mean a club needs your active consent, as the guardian, before a child under 18 can play a session as a visitor. This happens once per club (not once per visit), and it's quick.
What happens when you book
If you book a session for a child and mark them as under 18 (or a committee member adds them as a junior visitor at the door), the club sends a consent email to the email address you gave them. The email contains a secure, one-time link, nobody else can use it.
Completing consent
- Open the link from any device, phone or laptop is fine.
- Review the consent statement.
- Confirm your emergency contact details are on your profile
(Profile > Emergency contact at
/me/profile), the club needs this before consent can be marked complete. If it's missing, the link walks you through adding it. - Tap I consent.
Consent is recorded immediately, the child's booking updates in real time, and you don't need to do anything else for that club.
If you don't already have a Badminton Clubhouse account under that email, a lightweight one is created for you automatically so the consent link works; you can complete your profile whenever suits you.
How long consent lasts
Consent doesn't last forever. Most clubs use the platform default of 365 days from when you gave it; some clubs set a shorter period. You'll get a reminder email before it expires. Once it expires, you'll need to consent again before the child's next session at that club, consent given to one club never covers another.
What this doesn't cover
- Photo consent is separate, see Photo consent.
- Ongoing junior membership (rather than a one-off visitor session) goes through the club's junior registration process instead, the club will send you that link directly if the child wants to join properly.
